What is a detox?

  • Detoxification is a process that begins in the liver naturally.
  • In charge of doing the heavy work of the body, this organ filters almost 1.4 liters of blood every minute.
  • Decomposing and neutralizing toxic substances and converting them into highly reactive metabolites subsequently excreted as bile or blood.
  • Toxins range from acute – for example, alcohol or tobacco – to cumulative, low-grade toxins that are much less noticeable – like contaminants or pesticides in your food.
  • It is what your body naturally does, too, and transforms unwanted materials or toxins.
  • It is the body’s primary function, constantly working and interacting with all other body functions.
  • A detox serves to improve, optimize and support the body’s natural detoxification process by reducing the number of toxins we ingest.
  • In addition to providing the body with the nutrients, it needs to work correctly.

Why should you do a detox?

  1. When the body is overload with toxins resulting from a particularly indulgent but low-nutrient diet or a sustained period of alcoholic intake, for example, the metabolism slows down.
  2. It results in that feeling of tiredness, fluid retention, restless sleep, and increased anxiety. Sound familiar?
  3. The good news is that detox can reset all of this. It’s a great way to hit the reset button among the benefits.
  4. Effective detox can improve overall health by reducing the body’s toxic load and optimizing the body’s natural toxin elimination processes.
  5. When you feel more energetic and lose weight, their skin clears, they feel less bloated, their aches and pains improve, and they often notice an improvement in their concentration and focus.
  6. You can relieve inflammation and gases and can help reduce sugar cravings.

How long should a detox last?

  • The goal of a detox is to help your natural elimination system so that it can better cope with your regular diet and activities – it’s a reset, so a detox doesn’t need to last forever.
  • A gentle, natural detox program can help your body’s natural ability to cleanse itself and set you on the path to rejuvenation.
  • It can happen once a year or every season, depending on individual needs.

How to detoxify your body at home?

1. Eliminate toxins from your diet to give your body a chance to breathe

  • A healthy detox will eliminate foods that frequently cause reactions in the body, such as gluten and dairy, and irritate the stomach, such as alcohol and caffeine.

2. Fill your body with complete nutrients

  • Focus on selecting the right ingredients. Eat (and drink) natural, whole foods.
  • The less altered and manipulated they are, the better.
  • When filling your shopping basket, it’s essential to stick with good-quality, complete proteins, healthy fats, and green vegetables.
  • Fill your plate with whole foods like green vegetables, nuts and seeds, grass-fed meats and wild fish, and high-quality fats like olive oil, avocado oil, organic butter, and ghee.

3. Exercise regularly to sweat

  • During a detox, keep moving and try to sweat. It helps remove toxins from the body and control its temperature.
  • Intense exercise and hot yoga are two ways to accomplish this; saunas, especially those with infrared lights, are another.
  • Saunas and similar heat treatments have been part of preventive health protocols for centuries.
  • Heat stimulates circulation, which lowers blood pressure, relaxes tight muscles, relieves minor aches and pains.
  • Balanced cortisol shows to improves the function of arteries by strengthening the endothelial cells that line them.
Aim to relax for 15-20 minutes in a sauna a couple of times a week.
  • Make sure you stay well hydrated and shower right after so you don’t reabsorb the toxins.

4. Try dry brushing

  • The skin is your largest organ and is responsible for 15-20 percent elimination from the body.
  • Gently exfoliating dead cells can reduce pressure on the most important detoxification organs – the kidneys and liver.
  • Dry brushing also helps blood circulation, but its most profound purifying effect is on the lymphatic system, which helps flush toxins out of your body.
  • Using a natural fiber body brush, Start with the hands and slide the brush up towards the heart several times, covering all areas.
  • Next, brush your feet up to your upper legs in the same way. Use clockwise circular motions over your abdomen and armpits.
  • Then repeat the process in these areas with a movement in an anti-clockwise direction.
  • After this simple self-care process, take a hot shower or bath and soak up the benefits.

5. It also relaxes the mind

  • Stress generates high cortisol levels in the body, which can slow metabolism – something counterproductive when detox.
  • Find what works best for you to reduce stress.
  • Yoga, exercise, and meditation are ways to keep you on the road to calm; taking the time to do what you enjoy and spending time in nature also helps.

6. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

  • The water is the key to everything.
  • The hundreds of benefits of staying hydrated include a consistent body temperature, practical cognitive abilities, and healthy kidney and liver function – both essential in the detoxification process.
  • Even mild levels of dehydration can disrupt these natural detoxification systems.
  • Therefore, since the purpose of a detox is to support the organs that work naturally to eliminate toxins, it is even more important to stay well hydrated during this time.
